Seventy years after WWII, Oskar Gröning, one of the last surviving members of the SS, goes on trial as an accessory to the murder of 300,000 people at the Auschwitz concentration camp.
The documentary "Accountant of Auschwitz", directed by Matthew Shoychet & produced by Ricki Gurwitz and Ric Esther Bienstock, follows the story of Gröning during his trial and sentencing.
I designed the poster for this documentary and helped drive the creative for the visual identity of the film.
The colour scheme of the poster uses inspiration from the red, black and white combination associated with Nazi Germany.
Additionally, the typographic treatment of the "THE" on the poster imitates the curves of the actual gates of the Auschwitz concentration camp, in place of the original "ARBEIT MACHT FREI" text.
The poster was shown on streaming services such as HBO, Netflix and the Documentary Channel. Netflix repurposed the original concept for different viewerships and countries around the world.

Additional content for social media and e-blasts was made to announce premiere showings and award announcements. Some of these showtimes were followed by a Q&A session with the filmmakers.
This documentary was an official selection for the 2018 Toronto Hot Docs Film Festival, as well as other international film festivals.
It also won 4 separate categories at the 2020 Canadian Screen Awards.
